In 2011, Jones & Bartlett Learning teamed up with EMPACT Northwest in support of Port Au Prince Medic One (PAPMO), Haiti’s first-ever ambulance service. With the help of the EMPACT team, JBL and countless volunteers, EMPACT was able to establish an EMT program in Haiti. It is our great pleasure to announce that we are working with EMPACT on the PAPMO project again in 2012.
EMPACT Northwest is an all-volunteer 501(c)3 non-profit organization that was founded in 2010 in response to the Haiti earthquake. The organization is dedicated to providing direct medical care and education around the world to those who need it most, regardless of national or political affiliation. As part of their efforts, EMPACT created PAPMO.
On the memorable and historic day of September 20, 2011, PAPMO Class One graduated Haiti’s first EMTs. The graduation ceremony was attended by many important dignitaries from Medishare, AIMER Haiti, Haitian National Police-PAP Fire Chief, and the families of the students.
These EMTs will act as medical first responders and translators and will be accompanied by American paramedics, nurses, and doctors as they respond to emergency calls and transport critically ill or injured patients. View the video below to see PAPMO Class One in action.

Jones & Bartlett Learning is proud to continue our support of EMPACT Northwest and the PAPMO project in their future efforts by donating copies of our best-selling EMT title, Emergency Care and Transportation of the Sick and Injured. These books will be provided to the students in all 3 nine-week training courses PAPMO has planned in 2012.
“I would like to express an extreme amount of gratuity on behalf of EMPACT Northwest. Without your help by donating the EMT books to our organization, we would not have accomplished the graduation of Haiti’s first EMTs. We will be continuing our education program and infiltration of Haiti’s first EMS system into the future because of your generosity.”
