Online Learning Survey Results: Respiratory Care Instructors

Posted by Katie Hennessy on Jul 27, 2012 6:43:27 PM

Jones & Bartlett Learning recently surveyed 100 respiratory care instructors to find out their perceptions on online education. Half of the instructors surveyed said that they had used online courseware. A majority of instructors reported that their program is moving toward hybrid education while a smaller percentage said that their program is moving fully into online education.

When asked which instructional tasks they think technology could most effectively support:

    • 92% said homework
    • 83-85% said communication and information exchange
    • 75-79% said monitoring student progress and grading and assessment
    • 58% expected that technology could support remediation activities

The survey showed that the majority of instructors viewed 24/7 availability and the ability to upload materials continuously as the main benefits of incorporating technology into their teaching. Almost 70% believed that technology has the potential to increase student engagement. The instructors stressed the importance of student accessibility, ease of use, and online tutorials and technical support as central to effective online learning.

To meet the needs of today’s instructors and students, Jones & Bartlett Learning has developed a full online curriculum for respiratory care with Navigate, our comprehensive and interactive online courseware solution. An easy-to-use and fully customizable online learning platform, it combines authoritative content with interactive tools, assessments, and robust reporting and grading functionality. With content built around leading course descriptions, objectives, and accreditation standards, each 3-credit course is presented in 15 lessons and consists of 30 to 40 contact hours.
