As nursing informatics continues to grow and bring value to the healthcare industry, nursing students need current, practical, and powerful tools to facilitate the move from information through knowledge to wisdom. One such resource is the recently published Nursing Informatics and the Foundation of Knowledge, Fourth Edition by Dee McGonigle and Kathleen Mastrian. With content grounded in the authors' Foundation of Knowledge Model, it teaches students about the history of healthcare informatics, current issues, basic informatics concepts, and health information management applications.
In Fall 2013, we pilot tested Navigate eFolio: Nursing Informatics and the Foundation of Knowledge with two instructors and their students at Darton State College and The University of Texas at Tyler. Both instructors and 65 students provided us with their feedback and experiences using the product. In addition, the instructors allowed us to link information about their students’ performance to access frequency so we could evaluate the relationship.
