Earlier this month, Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick signed legislation expanding the medical authority of nurse-midwives. The new law allows midwives to write prescriptions as well as order and interpret tests and therapeutics. Governor Patrick said that the law will also increase access to nurse-midwifery care for more women in Massachusetts.
