World Cancer Day 2016February 4 is World Cancer Day, a global initiative in the fight against cancer. Celebrated annually, World Cancer Day aims to save lives from preventable deaths and raise "awareness and education about the disease, pressing governments and individuals across the world to take action." This year’s theme is "We can. I can." Its goal is to draw attention to the ways that we can address cancer individually, communally, and internationally.

According to Professor Tezer Kutluk, President of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC),

“World Cancer Day 2016 is a chance to reflect on what everyone can do to reduce the impact of this devastating disease, now, and for the future. We wish it to be a springboard for positive change. Take action for yourself, your organisation or your community/country, as everyone can make a difference and inspire others. ‘We can. I can.’ beat cancer."
