Dee McGonigle, PhD, RN, FACCE, FAAN, Professor at Chamberlain College of Nursing, and author of Nursing Informatics and the Foundation of Knowledge, Second Edition, will present this week at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society's annual conference (HIMMS12). Dr. McGonigle's session, The Use of an Academic EHR to Teach Nursing Practice, will present findings and instructional recommendations of a research study focused on the value of using electronic health records (EHRs) in learning environments to advance student understanding of nursing practice. The objectives of this session include:
- Describe the findings of the research study and offer suggestions for improving the education of nursing students in the United States
- Discuss the study findings
- Recognize the limitations of this research study and the implications for future research
