Nursing Titles for Lactation Consultants: ILCA Conference 2011

I recently attended my first ILCA Conference in San Diego. It was so great to talk with everyone and hear how nurses and lactation consultants are using Jones & Bartlett Learning titles in their everyday lives. For instance, many people stopped short when they saw Linda Smith's Third Edition of Comprehensive Lactation Consultant Exam Review on display and said they read the entire book, front to back, to prepare for their exam. A few soon-to-be test-takers were convinced by other attendees that they should pick up the book and read it in their hotel room to prep for the exam.

Quite a few lactation consultants mentioned that they use Karin Cadwell and Cynthia Turner-Maffei's Pocket Guide for Lactation Management every day in their practice. Every day! One woman said she keeps it in her pocket at work, and refers to it multiple times a day.

Another big hit was the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding online course. Many people loved the idea that they could gain 24.4 hours of continuing education on their own time, since the course is online and can be accessed 24 hours a day. A few administrators mentioned that they like the online course format because they can use it as a supplement for people who cannot attend an in-person training session.

It was really wonderful to hear that these nursing titles are making a difference in the professional lives of nurses and lactation consultants. How are you using our titles and courses? Let us know - we'd love to hear about it!
