In honor of National Nurse's Week we would like to highlight nurses and mentors who have truly inspired us along the way. Today's highlight comes from management and leadership author, Dr. Linda Roussel.

"My mentor, Dr. Russell Swansburg truly inspired me.  When I met Dr. Swansburg in my master’s degree program (studying Nursing Administration and Community Health), Dr. Swansburg had just retired from the Air Force as a Colonel.  From there, he took an Administrative position and brought me on for my first 'big' nursing administrative job.  I learned so much for him, especially his belief that the primary work of a nurse administrator was to create an environment where nurses can truly do their work!  Those words stayed with me in my various leadership roles, always putting staff and patients first in organizational system's decision-making.  Dr. Swansburg also served on my dissertation committee and was truly my biggest fan!" - Linda Roussel, PhD, RN, NEA-BC, CNL, FAAN, Visiting Professor, Texas Woman's University, Denton, Texas, Jones & Bartlett Learning author
