Did you know that there are approximately 234,000 practicing nurse practitioners (NPs) in the U.S., with an additional 23,000 new NP graduates each year? This week, join us in recognizing this notable group of healthcare professionals during National NP Week.
Held annually in November, National NP Week showcases the important work that NPs do as providers of high-quality and cost-effective health care. According to the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP),
"NPs are quickly becoming the health partner of choice for millions of Americans. As clinicians that blend clinical expertise in diagnosing and treating health conditions with an added emphasis on disease prevention and health management, NPs bring a comprehensive perspective to health care."
What's more, AANP reports that:
- 97.7% of NPs have graduate degrees
- 89.2% of NPs are certified in an area of primary care
- 95.8% of NPs prescribe medications
