National Nurses Week Celebrates the Power of Healthy Nurses

National Nurses WeekIt's National Nurses Week. Established by the American Nurses Association (ANA) in 1993, National Nurses Week begins on May 6 and ends on May 12, Florence Nightingale's birthday. This year's theme is “Nursing: the Balance of Mind, Body, and Spirit.”

Earlier this year, the ANA designated 2017 as the "Year of the Healthy Nurse" to encourage nurses to "eat healthier, be more active, get better sleep, and have more joy." Why? When nurses are healthier the nation is healthier.

According to the ANA, nurses "struggle with multiple health, safety, and wellness challenges," including workplace stress, sleep deprivation, obesity, and poor diet. By improving wellness, rest, nutrition, physical activity, quality of life, and safety, nurses have the opportunity to model these behaviors and educate others. The result is quite literally a better and healthier world.

This National Nurses Week, whether you've been practicing or teaching for decades, are just starting out, or are still in school, we celebrate you. From everyone at Jones & Bartlett Learning, thank you to all nurses!
