It's National Nurses Week. Established by the American Nurses Association (ANA) in 1993, National Nurses Week begins on May 6 and ends on May 12, Florence Nightingale's birthday. This year's theme is “Nursing: the Balance of Mind, Body, and Spirit.”
According to the ANA, nurses "struggle with multiple health, safety, and wellness challenges," including workplace stress, sleep deprivation, obesity, and poor diet. By improving wellness, rest, nutrition, physical activity, quality of life, and safety, nurses have the opportunity to model these behaviors and educate others. The result is quite literally a better and healthier world.
This National Nurses Week, whether you've been practicing or teaching for decades, are just starting out, or are still in school, we celebrate you. From everyone at Jones & Bartlett Learning, thank you to all nurses!
