The sun was shining, the sand was soft, and the gulf waters were warm and crystal clear at the Hilton Pensacola Beach where the members of the Southern Criminal Justice Association gathered to share thoughts and ideas on the study and instruction of criminal justice and criminology. It was the perfect backdrop for the annual conference and for showcasing our latest criminal justice and criminology textbooks to the 150 SCJA attending members.
The schedule was packed for the 3 day conference with 38 panel discussions covering a variety of contemporary topics, including sexual offenders, technology in policing, cybercrime, gangs, offender reentry, advancing criminal justice education and more. Though the attendees also managed to carve out time to relax on the quiet (off-season) beach and take a dip in the resort pool.
I enjoyed speaking with professors, many of which have retired from a career in law enforcement and are now full-time instructors eager to pass on their knowledge and learned experiences from the field. They perused our selection of recent publications and best-selling textbooks, including Exploring Criminal Justice: The Essentials, Victimology: Theories and Applications, Criminal Investigation, American Corrections, and more.
I look forward to SCJA 2019 in Nashville, TN!
